Al Granger

Al Granger has been in the printing and publications industries since 1969. Currently Al is owner of Tech Image, Inc. a graphics design and printing company that was established in 1991. He also has a subsidiary of Tech Image, Inc. called The Perfect Printer which specializes in high quality 4 color process printing. Al started his newspaper career in 1971 with Stromberg Publications in Ellicott City, Maryland.

At that time Stromberg Publications printed a chain of community newspapers in  the Baltimore area. They included Towson Times, Dundalk Times, Catonsville Times and several others. Stromberg also published the Howard County Times until they purchased by Patuxent Publishing. Al was also employed by the Sentential Newspaper in Gaithersbug, Maryland and The Carroll County Times in Westminster. Al had moved on to Rockwell International Graphic Systems as a newspaper printing press installer by 1979. In 1981 the largest newspaper chain in the US (Gannett Company) offered Al an opportunity with a bit of a challenge. Gannett had been in a five year research and development project to introduce a daily newspaper that featured full color photos and content. Up until that time most newspapers ran black and maybe one other color if an advertiser wanted to really stand out. The launch of USA Today was a hallmark event in the newspaper industry and forced all newspapers to adopt full color printing as the standard. Al served on the Production Technical Committee at USA Today and helped establish  some of the standard operating procedures used in the production of the publication. During a ten year period he owned and published a monthly publication for motorcyclist in the mid Atlantic region. As mentioned previously Al started his current business in 1991.

Active in the community of Oella, Maryland Al has helped with the planting of many trees and plants over the years.  Other projects include the cleanup of Coopers Run water way and the collection of hazardous household chemicals dropped off at the Westchester Community Center for transport to the county collection facility. Al has also donated printing for several of the community charitable events.
