Cool Kids Campaign – Volunteering with a Heart

Guaranteed this slogan will inspire you … “Cancer Fears ME.” It certainly made us stop in our tracks! The staff and volunteers of Cool Kids Campaign help children with cancer continue to be strong and positive, and to remember that sick or healthy … kids are cool! As you might agree, it takes attitude, persistence, friendship and compassion to plod through any challenge in life. Cool Kids Campaign agrees, too, which is why they support all of their “cool kids” and their caregivers along the journey. Their 100% free programs include care packages, quarterly newspaper, tutoring at their Cool Kids Learning Center, and much more.

Theirs is a truly touching story as to how Cool Kids Campaign formed in 2006. It began in loving memory of the late Baltimore Orioles shortstop Mark Belanger, father of Cool Kids co-founder Rob Belanger; and in honor of his close friend Chris Federico’s mother, Susannah. Executive director Sharon Perfetti joined forces with Rob and Chris after her daughter’s friend, Annie, was killed by a drunk driver and she organized Annie’s Playground in Harford County. Together with champion figure skater Kimmie Meissner, a fourth co-founder who lost two friends to the disease at a young age, the team was drawn to the vision of helping children cope with cancer.
Four amazing individuals with a combined vision, heart, hope and collaborative effort to share their insights to help many families deal with horrific scenarios. See for yourself how many families have been touched over the years by viewing this video
This heartfelt foundation has opened doors and opportunities through creative and FREE programs while offering a loving environment for the children who are sick at the Cool Kids Learning Center.
Along the way, they developed a line of products that help kids to show an “attitude” toward cancer with “Cancer Fears ME” T-shirts, caps, teddy bears and other merchandise. Their Board of Directors is a long impressive list of Baltimore sports figures, like Brooks Robinson and Ken Singleton, who support this nonprofit cause.
The organization consistently seeks new partnerships, volunteers and donations to assist them in their efforts. Take a moment to view their upcoming events and activities on their website (coolkidscampaign.org), purchase a Cancer Fears ME teddy bear, or consider making a donation as they hold hope for sick children around the country. Cool Kids Campaign is applauded for their efforts! We hope you will join in with your gift of time, services, expertise or experiences. For more information, email info@coolkidscampaign.org.

The students are special kids who you could say are already “mini specialists” in the medical field.  “The Cool Kids Campaign” office in Towson has been designed for the unique purpose of helping children with cancer keep up academically.”
