Glenelg High School’s annual Homecoming day parade will take place on Saturday October 22nd at eleven o’clock am.
For the students, it is a fun way to celebrate the morning leading up to the big game and the dance, but for the community it is a chance to come together and enjoy a morning full of fun, laughs and, often, candy as well.
As tradition calls for, each class from the school creates a float based on the spirit week theme, and the individual theme assigned to their grade. This year’s theme is the decades. The freshman class is the 90’s, the sophomores the 50’s, the Junior’s the 80’s, and the Seniors the 60’s. In addition to the class floats, the homecoming court, marching band, club floats and others will participate.
One very special participant this year is Marcella Ruland, who will ride her Harley Davidson trike in the parade in support of breast cancer awareness. Mrs. Ruland is a breast cancer survivor, and the leader of the Glenelg High School chapter of the National Honor Society. NHS will decorate the trike with pink ribbons, and members will walk with banners and signs in support of breast cancer awareness.
Mr. Schindler, principal of Glenelg High School, said this about homecoming and the parade; “Homecoming is a wonderful community and spirit building week for Glenelg High School. The spirit is contagious and allows staff and students to be proud of Glenelg.”
The parade promises to once again be a wonderful event, so come out and join us on the 22nd for a fun family and community event in support of Glenelg High School!
